This divergent quality can be productive when creativity is needed is situations like interviewing for a job, creating a project for school, or even just meeting new people. Either in class or work, eccentric people seem to have some sort of originality to them. But, this originality can sometimes tend to be an issue. Some employers or professors may not approve of people with eccentric personalities. It may be a characteristic they are not looking for due to unprofessionalism.
Part 2: Can herbal medicine cure animals like it does humans?
The most interesting discovery I found was that herbs do have a medicinal impact on animals and that most animals have evolved with the ability to know what type of plants/herbs to eat if something is medically wrong with them. I also learned that most pharmaceuticals created for animal ailments came originally from studying how herbs effect sick or injured animals. I also came across "Zoopharmacognosy" which is the behavior in which animals self-medicate by ingesting plants, soil, or insects (in which they would not normally eat) to get rid of deadly pathogens and toxins within their body.

| The most common type of Zoopharmacognosy is when cats or dogs eat grass to soothe an upset stomach. |

I thought this one was very interesting because I have seen some of my pets in the past eat grass or some sort of plant similar and didn't really understand why. It's also really cool that they already know what plants to eat for different things like an upset stomach.
ReplyDeleteWhat is your favorite animal, and why?
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy your research question because it is a very simple concept that I have not known about until reading your post. It makes sense for humans to observe these behaviors of animals 'self medicating" themselves by eating certain plants that can cure their sickness. I always remember watching my dog eat grass in the backyard when I was younger and my mother telling me, "she eats the grass because it helps her stomach ache." After understanding the idea of Zoopharmacognosy better, I am interested in knowing what other ways animals do this.
