Profile Practice-Cameron Ward

I interviewed Brooke Voisard, who described herself as having an affinity for reading.

When I asked her why she has a passion for reading, she responded, "I like to experience new things and be introduced to new ideas." She was especially adamant about her love of fantasy novels, her favorite book genre. "Nonfiction is boring for the most part (except for Holding On). I like the Twilight series. The books are OK, but the movies are embarrassing."

She talked about how she got into reading. She says that her school played a big part in her falling in love with literature. She first started reading books to get AR points for school. "Sometimes I used to not read the books, and I would just do the tests, but then I got hooked on reading. My idea of a good time is siting at home with a book and some chocolate. My friend and I sometimes will take books out to the park and read." Not a bad way to spend an afternoon, if you ask me.

I asked her if she had ever thought of writing a book herself. She replied that yes, the thought had crossed her mind. She writes poetry sometimes, and says she takes "inspiration" from other books to make her own short fantasy stories. "I don't plagiarize," she insisted.

She had a very poignant definition of the word imagination. She defines the imagination as "a world you can escape to- it can be real or make-believe, but it has to help you escape your reality. Can I tell you how badly I want Harry Potter to be real? In my opinion, Harry Potter is the definition of imagination."

  2. The way you wrote this profile is very good. I really got to know her without knowing any previous information and what she is passionate about. I also loved the picture, it showed her love for reading in a comical way. The only critique I could add is that I want to know more detail. I don't know what AR means in her high school. But overall very good. I'm also curious what kind of book she would write if money or time wasn't an issue.

  3. I love that her way of showing how she viewed imagination was talking about Harry Potter! I also think it's really cool how her and her friend will go sit in the park and read just for fun, it shows that we don't always need technology and I appreciate that there's still people like that.

  4. This is a good profile to read. I too have my share of the love of reading. I like to read for fun, not for school (haha). Seriously though reading is a good pass time.

  5. Great use of diction. I agree with imagination being an escape route to a better tomorrow.

  6. Amazing profile. I used to like reading when I was young, but now I can barely finish a book. I got bored easily when I try to read a book. She is right through reading you'll get introduced to new ideas and wisdom. The more the person reads the more he or she becomes civilized.
