Journal 3- Aziz Hamid

Journal Three- Aziz Hamid

Part One:

Eccentricity. What does it mean? When you say, someone is eccentric, that person behaves unconventional, have habits or opinions that are different from those of most people. Eccentric people are people who don’t care or are not pressured by society to conform to societal norms. Even though they don’t conform to societal norms these people are not crazy. These are the kind of people who stand out in a crowd. Being eccentric is both good and bad. What makes a person eccentric are creativity, curiosity, unconventional, idealistic and free-spirit.

I am eccentric. I am not like most people. I don’t think the same as most people do. I am a very curious person. I don’t easily accept something to be true until I spend a lot of time thinking and reflecting about it. When I see a crazy alcoholic, I don’t see that person as a drunk. I look at that person and see someone’s mother/father, daughter/son or sister/brother. I see someone with a problem. I trained myself to see the good out of people. Have you ever drove by a homeless person, felt bad and donated some money? For many people yes, but have you ever donated some money and sat down with that person? When I see a homeless person, I don’t just give them my money I get to know them. I ask them how did you get here? What is your story? Is there anything I can do to help you more than just money?

I like starring at the skies and pondering over the creations. I ponder over the world around me. For example, when I think about alternations between day and night, I think deeply and ponder over it. Night and day happen every day, it’s a daily thing. At the end of the day, all of our lives is a set of days. I think beyond of what I see physically. I am eccentric because my thinking and habits are different from most people.

Part Two:

What are the top medical herbs one should plant?

Herbalism is the use of plants’ seeds, leaves, flowers, roots and other plant-derived substances for healing purposes to treat and prevent disease and promote health. Herbal medicine is used to treat several different conditions, such as anxiety, tension, cold, flu, headaches including migraines and much more.

Here are a few of the plants I found, the rest can be seen on the websites:

                              Basil                                                                             Chamomile
Used to help with lack of appetite, cuts, and scrapes.
Used for infusions and to relieve indigestion and colic, anxiety and tension, and skin inflammation and irritations

                         Parsley                                                                          Lavender

Contains many nutrients and help with bad breath.

Used for easing pain and as an antiseptic on cuts and bruises

              Peppermint                                                                            Rosemary

Helps relieve digestion and gas. Also, help soothe headaches

Helps with memory
and concentration. Help with bad
breath and improves mood.

One interesting discovery I made in doing research so far is about 25% of perception drugs are made from plants. Over 200 years ago, morphine was the first pharmacological compound. Opium is extracted from the seed of poopy flower.

The websites I used to find some of the top medical herbs one should plant were Reader's Digest and Top 10 Home Remedies. Reader's Digest is not a very credible source so I also used Top 10 Home Remedies to make sure the information matched.

  1. I enjoyed reading this post Aziz. The way you incorporate yourself to and for the homeless is eccentric. Yet, it also does wonders for those on the edge. Just to have an ear to talk into is all some people need in life. To know there story is not just a statistic or something that does not matter. Your talk on herbs was very descriptive and I have anxiety. I use herbs like lavender to bathe in to calm my panic disorder. Maybe one day my anxiety will just be a trip of the past.

  2. I really enjoyed how you look at the world differently than others. I don't think about why the world works the way it does but I feel like I should think about it more after reading this. I also thought that the all of the herbs that you listed would be helpful for many different situations and everyone should have at least of few of these in their garden.

  3. I love your post about how you get to know a homeless person rather than just giving them money and walking away. That's a very selfless quality to have. I also find your research very interesting and I was surprised about how many different problems one herb can help with.

  4. I really liked what you said about yourself being eccentric. You do think out of the box and that is a good quality. I liked how you look at the bigger picture in people. You don't just see an alcoholic on the street you see someones mother or father. That is a good quality to have. You look behind the mask and see for who that person is. I also liked how you talked about a homeless person. You are right most people just look the other way but you are willing to talk to them and get to know their story. To me that shows alot about who you are. Sounds like your a great person who cares.

  5. I like how much you say you think about the world and think past the physical aspect of things. I often think about questions like why are things the way they are and how did they come to be?
