Journal Three from Jo Leienberger

Part One:
Eccentricity is being different and out of the usual. Everybody should be eccentric daily. Nobody wants to be friends with someone who has no personality, they want someone whose interesting. Teachers don't like to grade boring papers, they want creativity. Employers don't want a candidate whose has done nothing in their years of experience, they want different. Just like I said, eccentricity is valued. People are interested in interesting people. But, it can also be problematic. Sometimes people can be too confident in being different. They can offend others or go way to far.

In my opinion, I am eccentric. Everybody is. Everybody has different personalities that make them, as long as they are themselves. My senior year in high school, I had to fill out scholarships and I won quite a few. Most of them that I won were sports related I noticed. I found out it was because I was different. Most kids just talked about sports in their essays, I did not. I talked about what I truly was interested in and that was sports, but I love 4-H and is very involved with that. So I included those kinds of things in my essay and I won! All because I was eccentric.

Part Two:
The most interesting discovery I have made so far is about herbal medicine. My original question was "How did herbal medicine come about?". This question is very hard to find an answer and I still haven't. But I did find out that it probably existed before any records were made. So then I went on to ask "How did Tommie Bass find out about herbal medicine?". I found out that he was very interested in it, it was his hobby. Working with his dad as farm hand, he would adventure the forest for relaxation. Further on, her became very interested with herbal medicine.

The website that I found most of my information was
This is a very credible website because all it has is documentary. There is no ads, or sales. The website is made by Darryl Patton, he is a MD as well as master herbalist.

  1. I love your take on eccentricity in the first paragraph, especially about the creativity in school and the work place. I definitely think it is worth something to stand out, and I got the feeling you do too from this paragraph. I also agree that there is a fine line between being quirky and being too much, and everybody is going to cross it sometimes. It's impossible not to. I also think that everyone is eccentric. Everyone has their quirks , and as long as they're not violent and dangerous, they should be celebrated. It's amazing how many festivals and events there are for little-known and widely-known hobbies. There's a celebration for anything these days. Congratulations on your scholarships! It pays to be different!
