Journal number 7 by Valerie Engwall
Part One
I would say one of the greatest things I got out of this book was seeing and experiencing it from the other side, a different point of view. You really get to see the damage the bomb did to these innocent civilians who were just going along with their own business. The lives it destroyed the death it brought and the life long side affects. These are things I never thought about until reading this book . I really did not have much knowledge on Hiroshima to begin with. Another thing that I got out of this book was how most of the characters never gave up. The motivation they had after the bomb was stunning at certain points. I mean Mrs Nakamura had nothing after the bomb. She struggled every day to just make the bare minimum. Yet she came out on top of things and continued on . Through all of her health struggles she still continued to work hard. It never stopped her. She even towards the end had free time where she could go to dance classes and enjoy simple things. It just shows you how these people got through what they did under such a high stress event. Even when she passes out she tells the doctor she just wants to go home. It was nothing compared to what she has been through.
Part Two
I think one of the biggest things I got out of the pod cast was when he was talking about all of the different fire raids. It shook me when he told that one of the best things the atomic bomb did was stop the fire raids. How did it get to a point that dropping an atomic bomb was better than continuing fire raids. It really got me thinking. Even Dan Carlin pointed out how do you get into the mentality that something like this was okay. Just for the sake of a war. How is it morally acceptable to do something like this just so your side can win or show it was better. He even pointed out when is it better to loose a war than it is to win a war. So many great points it really got me thinking about war violence. In a sense we are all just a bunch of animals who don't know when enough is enough we have to prove a point. That point was defiantly made with the ending effects of WWII.
Part Three
I feel like the big heads in charge of the government do not care enough about the people on the bottom. They only care about what they can gain and that is a problem. They don't think rationally therefore they will do anything to gain power. Even if that would mean killing the innocent. Change the way they think and we might get somewhere. Find someone who cares about the people on the bottom. Get those on bottom more involved in what goes on in our government. So many don't even care to vote because they feel like their opinion doesn't matter. Let someone in power live like those living in poverty and see if it can change the way the view things. As people our selves don't be afraid to stick up for what we believe in maybe somehow someone will hear our opinion and take it to hear.

I really like the part one section of this post and stating that receiving a different viewpoint of the Atomic bomb was your greatest take away. I wonder if the Japanese think the same about the American versions of what happened in Hiroshima? I think the fire raids were very interesting in the podcast too. I never would have thought that the fire raids accounted for so much death during the time.
