Malcolm X Presentation Comments

u 1-- Write about something well done.  What did you learn from this group?  What part of the Presentation seemed the best?

2-- Offer constructive criticism that would help this group.  What might have been more clear?  What part of the Presentation seemed the least polished?  Where did you want more clarity or development? What did this group miss? Etc.

The best and most thoughtful comments will likely include information, observations, quotes, statistics, connections, questions. . . or other material from your active listening notes.

Aziz, Jeremy, and Jonikka did Malcolm X.

  1. I thought the use of videos was great in this presentation, and I thought they all demonstrated a good amount of knowledge on the subject. They made relevant connections and had a lot of details to keep the audience entertained. I thought the most meaningful part of the presentation that stuck with me is when Jeremy said that he adopted the surname X because the x stands for his lost culture, the culture directly taken from his people in the slave trade, the suppressed values and ideals of his race. Something that wasn't very well done was the slideshow. It was very scattered, and I think Prezis aren't the right tool if you're trying to be clear and concise. I think it's much more effective to have everything laid out in bullet points on a Powerpoint or google slide.

  2. I thought that this group did a good job at using a variety of different ways to present, they used video, the information from slides and talking; these three usages of presenting were very well executed.
I thought they were good at covering everything in Malcolm X's life and all his thoughts, but it over exceed the time limit, which, as an audience member, kinda lost my interest after so long. I think there was just too much info for the time line given.

  3. I haven't learned a lot about Malcom X in the past so this presentation was very interesting to me. The videos in the presentation kind of brought the information together which is great! The Prezi was a really good idea and made it different, but confusing at the same time. Since I didn't know much about Malcolm X before, I was very confused. What could of helped is to have a introduction slide talking about him himself, and stating the obvious about him.

  4. The presentation was very good with conclusion and introduction, I think one part I liked in the presentation was when you guys talked about Malcolm X's vision of Family as a Unit. The presentation started with thesis about Malcolm X, then Malcolm' journey towards Islam, Civil rights moment and then conclusion, in a coherent manner.
Given the time constraint and the amount of information collected by you guys was a lot, you could have made it way smaller and explained more. I also think that the topics were not divided equally among the groups members, it felt like Jeremy talked the most during the course of presentation.

  5. This was an excellent presentation.i have learnt a lot about Malcom X. His powerful speeches and his determination to promote peace and equality. I think the group had more interesting themes that they were trying to tell to their audience but time was against this. The group answered the question that were raised by their audience.Good job everyone.

  6. Overall great job, I thought Jeremy did a great job of setting the tone for the presentation, the presentation covered a lot of different categories of Malcom X's life, I also liked the compare and contrast between Malcom X with MLK. I would have liked to hear the team members share talking time more evenly, but it didn't take anything away from the overall presentation. Presentation wise I was a little confused on what part of his life we were talking about, it seemed to bounce around a little. But with that said I still give your team 4 of 4 stars. Great Job!

  7. This was a great presentation. I thought MLK Jr. was a good contrast to Malcolm X. There was also several sources that supported the presentation. If any criticism, maybe the points were a little choppy. I would be listening and then suddenly, a sharp turn was taken to another point. Overall, great presentation!

  8. I thought that your presentation was overall well done and I found the prezi that you used very interesting. I also liked your video clips that you included in the presentation it gave a much better understanding of who Malcolm X was. The only thing that I thought needed some work is sometimes I found myself confused because of the pace that all the information was being thrown at me. Other than that I thought overall it was a great presentation.

  9. I thought that the presentation was overall really good. I liked that you used videos to really show what Malcolm X was about and who he was as a person.
The presentation could have used some improvement when talking about Mecca because that portion really confused me and it also went over the time limit but since your group had three people I didn't see it as a big deal.

  10. I thought that this group did a very good job at not just reading their information off the presentation slides and shared a lot of good information. I also enjoyed the videos used to help the audience understand who Malcolm X was.
But I think this presentation could have used some clarification on certain things such as Mecca and the Nation of Islam. They seemed like interesting things but no one really described what they were or how they were incorporated into Malcolm X's life.

  11. In my opinion, the imagery within the slides as well as the introduction to the films was the best part of this presentation. They were very visually compelling, especially the first slide of him holding the newspaper with the title "Our Freedon Can't Wait". On the other hand, some of the questions on the work sheet were left unanswered or covered very swiftly as to make it hard to identify what they were placing emphasis on in the worksheet. I felt the information could have been placed on the slides in case the information was not covered, or if not heard or glossed over.

  12. This is the best presentation I think in terms of the technology and the information they presented. I liked the videos a lot. In fact they didn't have a lot of things in the slides however they explained well the little thing they had in the slides. They looked like they prepared well before the presentation. I read some of the Malcom X story before the presentation, he was skilled orator and I like how he expresses his Ideas; that reminds me Brack Obama they have a lot similarities to me when they are talking.

  13. I'm impressed that they used a Prezi presentation instead of just a google slides or PowerPoint. The videos also were able to articulate Malcom X's views, because they were HIS words. It's best to hear it from the man himself instead of trying to articulate your interpretation of his words. For such a controversial figure, the presenters did a good job of keeping it objective and letting the class make their own judgements.

While the overall presentation was good, I felt that the order of the slides could have been better thought out. It felt hard to follow the topic at times because the slides would jump around from subject to subject. Other than the organization, I think that the presentation showed that a lot of thought went into it.

  14. 1. The presentation had good visuals and was well constructed.
    2. I fell the presentation was a bit too long and jogged around topics too much. It was a bit unclear what the main theme was.

  15. Some of our topics were broad, but the use of the mecca and his religious views were detrimental in getting the theme of visions could change in life for the better. We also had the largest group so we needed 16 to 20 min to give fair share of time. Yet we could have shaved a video to make time.

  16. Good presentation you guys had alot if good information. The interesting topics were how did he got the x and also your group did well with quotes. The powerpoint was kinda all over the place and was kind of hard for me to follow.

  17. I think you guys did a great job on this presentation. I would say at some points it seemed like a history lesson at times but it was a very broad topic. I really liked how your slides came together. It fit well with the project. I got the point of what made Malcolm x was trying to do and what made him a viosonary. Great job. With all the history on him you did well with narrowing down the main points and focusing.

  18. the presentation created a well rounded view of the subject. I would have occluded some segments about the Muslim Brotherhood other than their brief role in the narrative as well as be careful with your use of block quotes because it was hard as an audience member to decide whether i had enough time to read the quote or if i should listen to the presenter before the slide changed.
