Journal 7 -- heather campbell

part one: My biggest takeaway from this book is that it's the unexpected that pushes people's will to live. Once people began to or already lost their loved ones to the bomb they pushed harder to in a way fight to save their people. Another takeaway I got was that nothing in life is truly expected and you should just live as though it's your last day, if Miss Sasaki knew it were her last day she may not have been "the first moment of atomic age, a human being crushed by books." (pg 16)
part two: The way people's bodies reacted to the atomic bombing was the most interesting part to me. Not necessarily due to the way someones skin shloffed off their hands like it was a glove but more along the ways where people typically had more hope they ended up lasting just a bit longer than others, they had the will to live and would call "tasukete," over and over.
part three: As long as people are capable of forming their own decisions there will always be war. We make some decisions based on our opinions such as political parties. A person would see their opinion as the right thing to do and if enough people agree and go along with them it creates places like america where we have a lot of rights and also places like north korea which is communist and we view what they do as wrong. People will forever have opinions shaped by what they grew up around and if they think something is wrong enough it's typically acted upon.

  1. I agree with you that nothing in life is truly expected, we don't know what calamities we will face in the future. I think we should be hopeful for the future and be prepared for the worst.

  2. I agree with you that our opinion shapes how we act and what we do. We all see things differently and that is what shapes and make each individual unique.

  3. I agree that people really develop and hone their will to live when it is threatened. People can persevere under the hardest conditions. The human spirit is amazing.
