Journal 7 By Tyler Beers

Part One: My first big takeaway from the book "Hiroshima" was i really didn't really know the effect that the bomb had.  Many people had lost theirs lives or they have lost love ones.  If the people weren't killed they were servery wounded and had major burns all of their bodies. "Mr. Tanimoto, ashamed of hurting people, embarrassed at being able to walk up right, suddenly thought of the naval hospital ship, which had not come (if never did), and he had for a moment a feeling of blind, murderous rage at the crew of the ship, and then at all doctors.  Why didn't they come to help these people." (Hersey 46).  My second takeaway that i found interesting is how Dr. Fujii was not affected by the radiation.  For example on page 128 it talks about Dr. Fujii how he was compassionate towards his patients, he had a dance floor installed, bought a billiard table, he took up golf, and many other things.

Part Two: The thing in the podcast that enlightening was the fire raids in Japan.  I also did research on the fire bombs in Japan during World War 2.  In my research i found some interesting facts about the fire bombings.  The bombings lasted from January 1944 until August 1945.  Over the years time 333,000 people were killed during the bombings.  88,000 people alone were killed from the atomic bombing dropping in Hiroshima.  Also 157,000 tons of bombs were drop on Japan during that over a year period.  That number also counts the atomic bomb.

Part Three: My vision going forward to help us avoid a catastrophes is to eliminate all of the major powers and world threats.  For example in today's in world, North Korea is one of the biggest threats and is the most equivalent to a world catastrophes in my opinion.  To resolve this issue we need a couple of countries to get together and eliminate the ruler of North Korea and to takeover the government.  Then we could basically keep every country calm and that could lead to a catastrophe free world.

  1. I like what you said about Hiroshima and the book helped you learn the affect that the bomb had on the people because that was one of my takeaways as well. I also talked about the fire raids from the podcast and I like that you did some research and found some information about the fire raids because I was curious about them as well.
