Journal 4- Jonikka shepherd

Part 1
My absolute favorite photo in Holding on is on page 197 the Johnny Tocco profile. He is in front of his gym called "Ringside Gym" in Las Vegas, Nevada which is the main setting of his story. He has a cigar in his mouth and is in a boxer pose, which is the props he was using. This photo adds to the story because we get to know how he became a boxer. By looking at his photo you can tell he has a feisty personality and a fun looking guy by the way he is smiling through his cigar. You can tell he has been in this business for a real long time. He looks like he enjoys what he is doing. By reading this profile I reflected on what my grandpa has told me about this boxing arena in Ohio ( can't remember where in Ohio).  My grandpa went to a boxing/wrestling arena where he had met some wrestlers that are famous today in the WWE ( for example : Andre the Giant, Rody piper who has a son named Randy Ortian, etc). This is why I like this picture and profile because it reminded me of that.

Dancing
Something I'm holding on to is my love and passion of dance. I have been dancing for 17 years, but have to retire because of me doing an internship in the spring. Dancing is a form of art and free expression. There are many types of dancing. The ones i did were ballet, clogging and baton. Dancing started out as physical therapy when i was little, but the more i did it the more i grew into loving it. I did baton for hand eye coordination, ballet for balance, and clogging for speed.

  1. Yeah, I thought, just from looking at the picture, that Johnny Tocco was an owner of a pizzeria or a restaurant or something like that. I thought the front of his shirt was an apron.

I agree that dancing is absolutely a form of art. I was never much good at it myself. I never really thought of dance as an exercise, though. It does make sense now that I think about it.
