Journal Four -- Heather Campbell

The photo that is my personal favorite is from the Robert Shields profile. After reading this profile you understand that this man takes almost no time away from typing his diary. I feel that in this photo with his hand still resting on the keyboard it shows how he really appears, it's as if he took a brief moment to pause after typing more into his diary for this photo. His other hand is resting on his leg under the table and it looks like he could lift it up and begin typing more and more. All of the light in the photo is shining onto Robert and the keyboard and I feel that it shows that this is his idea of what life should be and he's reached "the light" or in a sense "found his purpose," even though it seems like a never ending task, for him it is his way of life. The way his back is hunched in the photo doesn't seem to be making him uncomfortable it seems more like he found the perfect stop to go on and type and type like he does everyday. I feel that this picture truly captures his essence.

Looking at sunset or sunrise pictures brings me a feeling of what I imagine genuine peace to be like. The one thing that I have found myself consistently holding on to is the sky. Not the atmosphere, not the chemicals, not global warming, but simply the way the sky looks. The sky will never look the same every single day. Sometimes it's painted a plain blue with maybe a cloud or two and sometimes it has the most vivid reds, purples, and oranges. My friends and I will go to multiple places to go adventuring and I always come up with pictures of the sky rather than my surroundings. People get too caught up in the day to day lives that they live, too busy at work, too busy walking and texting, too busy at school, too busy to simply look at the sky and notice the way it changes in some of the most beautiful ways. The sky shows its beauty in places you would never expect to find it like above a highway, in the New York City alleys, and many more places people don't typically look at to enjoy. I could sit and look at pictures of the sky that I've taken months ago and still notice new or different things than what I notice before. The two pictures I have attached are my lock screen and home screen of my phone, I consider the second picture the most one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen. The sky shows me that there is beauty in everything, even the places you would least expect it.

  1. I totally agree with your view on the Roberts Shields picture. I noticed the way his hand rested on the keyboard, and I thought it looked like it was placed there almost affectionately. It reminded me of the way someone would put their hand on the back of someone they love, like it was comfortable and familiar. Those photos are beautiful and they make me realize how much I take the sunrise/sunset for granted.

  2. Nice set up with the pictures wrapped around the words. This could be set in a magazine.
